Models wanted!

The Edinburgh Mela are looking for models to take part in the 20th Edinburgh Mela Fashion Show.  Open auditions will be held at Duncan Place Resource Centre (EH6 8HW) on Tuesday 12th August from 18:30-20:00.  

Models must be available to attend rehearsals in Edinburgh on Saturday 23rd and Saturday 30th August from 12:30-16:30.  The Fashion Show will take place at the Edinburgh Mela Festival on Sunday 31st August at 3pm.

Go Green with Pedal-Powered Cinema!

Throughout the Mela weekend Take One Action’s pop-up cinema squad will be running their Wee Green Cinema! Each day from 12-9 they’ll be offering an exciting programme of events for young and old alike. From family friendly crafts and animations to campaign cinema and evening feature films, including an exclusive UK premiere. Drop in and travel the world on their amazing bike and solar-powered cinema- learn about low-fi living and have a pedal as well!

Take One Action is Scotland’s global action cinema project. Through their annual festival and year-round events, they aim inspire shared solutions to global and environmental injustice by linking audiences, movies, campaigners, and communities across the country.

A singing star since the age of ten, Nurjahan Shilpi is an award-winning talent. Nurjahan was chosen by ustad Akter Sadmani for tutoring in the classical music and Khalid Hossain for Nazrul Giti.  She also took tuition from Bulbul Lolito Kola Academy until the age of 16.

After the arrival in United Kingdom she began singing professionally, specialising in traditional Bengali, Hindi, Urdu and Panjabi songs, and performed in many stage programmes. Within few years  she secured her status as one of the most popular Bengali singers within the UK. Furthermore Nurjahan is a popular singer in Indian and Pakistani community for classical,Ghazal and Bollywood songs. [/span]

Bollywood dance has its origins in Indian classical and folk dance. Over the years this has been mixed with Western dance forms and popular Bhangra beats. Join us for some afternoon dancing and Hindi music with some of Edinburgh’s young dancing stars.
