Date: Sun 31st August

Location: Mela Mix Stage

Time: 17.20-18.05

Rise Kagona is a guitar hero to many on two continents.  In his home country of Zimbabwe, Rise transferred traditional Jiti rhythms to guitar, and his band The Bhundu Boys toured the world extensively in the 1980s and 1990s.  The BBC’s Andy Kershaw cites them as having changed his life, and John Peel famously broke down in tears the first time he saw them perform live.

Rise will perform new songs and old favourites with his Edinburgh-based Jit Jive Band. Rise’s “sunny, intricate guitar lines whose easy sparkle belie formidable technical prowess” (Scotsman) are sure to get you grooving.

feat. Danny Ladwa

STYLE: Dub/Beatboxing

Date: Sun 31st August

Location: Main Stage

Time: 20.15-21.15

Superstar music producer, composer, musician and live performer GAUDI, and beatboxing specialist Danny Ladwa, hit the Mela fresh from their globe-hopping summer tour. A global favorite in the electronica and dub music scenes, UK based producer GAUDI keeps his ever-growing fan base returning to the dance floor with his infectious bass-driven tunes and innovative live performances.

Honoring the traditions of old school dub by performing on stage without a computer, GAUDI’s incredible sonic manipulations are interwoven with live theremin, Moog, vocoder, tape echoes, percussion and vocals – all of which makes for a one-of-a-kind experience not to be missed.

For his 2014 tour GAUDI and his partner in rhyme, Danny Ladwa, will be performing tracks from current album, “In Between Times”, which features an amazing crew of collaborators including Michael Rose (Black Uhuru), Jahmai, Raja Ram (Shpongle), the legendary Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, The Orb, Dennis ‘Dubmaster’ Bovell, Hedflux, Twilight Circus and the Moroccan artist Tahar. Expect deep beats, live looping, harmonic electronica and wild energy from the multi-talented dub duo.
